The Greenville community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 17-year-old James Sutton, whose life was tragically cut short on the evening of November 18, 2025. James was shot in a deadly incident along the 1400 block of Highway 82 East, near the Sonic Drive-Thru, after police responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 8 p.m. Despite rapid emergency response, James was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Born with a kind heart and a bright spirit, James was the type of young man who brought laughter, joy, and warmth into every room he entered. Those who knew him describe a teenager full of energy, loyalty, and dreams—dreams that were stolen far too soon. Whether spending time with friends, supporting his family, or planning for the future, James lived with a sincerity and light that made him unforgettable.
His passing has left an immeasurable void in the lives of his loved ones—family members who adored him, friends who grew up beside him, and a community now grieving one of its own. At just 17, James had so much life left to live, and the pain of losing him so suddenly is one that words can hardly hold.
As investigators continue to search for answers and seek justice, the community is being asked to keep James’s family and all who loved him in their hearts. In the days ahead, may the memories of his laughter, his kindness, and the love he shared be a source of comfort and strength.
Rest in peace, James. You were loved deeply, and your memory will live on in every heart you touched.
