Fatal Motor Vehicle–Pedestrian Crash in Durham

DURHAM, Maine — The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a tragic motor vehicle–pedestrian crash that claimed the life of an 85-year-old Durham resident on the evening of November 18, 2025.

At approximately 5:01 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to the intersection of Royalsborough Road and Smith Farm Road after reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Deputies, along with Durham Fire-Rescue, arrived to find that Peter Lowe, 85, had been hit while crossing the roadway to check his mailbox.

According to the preliminary investigation, a black 2019 Ford Escape driven by 49-year-old Sara Bolduc of Freeport was traveling southbound on Royalsborough Road when the collision occurred. Mr. Lowe, who was wearing dark clothing in an area without street lighting, died at the scene from his injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office crash reconstructionist responded to assist with the investigation, which remains active. Both the Freeport Police Department and Freeport Fire-Rescue also provided support at the scene as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
