AUBURN, Ala. — The Auburn community is mourning the tragic loss of Jennifer Cooper, 42, a beloved local business owner, mother, and former teacher, who lost her life Tuesday morning following a crash on East University Drive at Alfa Court. The incident, involving a vehicle and a school bus, occurred around 8 a.m. CST. Despite the efforts of first responders, Cooper was pronounced deceased at 8:09 a.m. by Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton.
Jennifer Cooper was widely known as the owner of GiGi’s Cupcakes, with locations in Opelika, Alabama, and Columbus, Georgia. Her bakery was a staple of the community, bringing joy through her sweet creations and her warm, personal touch. Beyond her business, she was a devoted mother to two children and a former science teacher, remembered by students and colleagues as passionate, caring, and inspiring.
The Auburn Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit responded to the scene, launching a full investigation into the crash. Authorities have confirmed that no other injuries were reported. Cooper’s body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for a postmortem examination.
