MAULDIN, S.C. — The Upstate fire community is mourning the loss of 27-year-old Firefighter Joshua Robert Gardo, who tragically lost his life in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on Sunday evening.
According to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office, the crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. near Ashmore Bridge Road and Sonoma Drive. Gardo, a Pickens resident, lost control of his motorcycle and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Gardo served with the Gantt District Fire Department, where he was known for his dedication, courage, and deep commitment to helping others. His department released a heartfelt statement following his passing:
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of our own, Firefighter Joshua Gardo, who tragically left us on Sunday evening. Though his time with us was far too short, Joshua served his community with courage and commitment. His willingness to step into danger for the safety of others was a testament to both his character and his calling. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched. Joshua, thank you for your service. We will honor your memory by continuing the work you believed in.”
Friends, colleagues, and community members remembered Gardo as a dependable young firefighter with a bright future—someone who approached every call with professionalism and heart. His loss is being deeply felt throughout the department and the community he served.
The Mauldin Police Department is assisting the coroner with the ongoing investigation.
