The Storm Lake community is heartbroken over the loss of 83-year-old Paul Bengtson, who tragically passed away in a crash on Wednesday, November 26, on Iowa Highway 3 near Humboldt.
Paul was driving a 2020 Ford Edge SUV when he reportedly crossed the center line, overcorrected, and went into a ditch, causing the vehicle to roll multiple times. Despite emergency responders’ efforts, Paul did not survive the accident. The Iowa State Patrol, with assistance from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and the Humboldt Fire Department, handled the scene and investigation.
Paul was more than a resident of Storm Lake—he was a familiar face in the community, remembered for his warmth, kindness, and the way he touched the lives of those around him. Friends and neighbors recall his generosity, his gentle nature, and the quiet ways he made a difference in the lives of others.
