Missing 15-Year-Old With Autism Found Dead After Massive Search in Baldwin County

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ga. — A days-long search for a missing 15-year-old boy with autism ended in heartbreak Wednesday evening after authorities confirmed that the body of Jeffrey Epps was found.

According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, search teams discovered Jeffrey around 6:15 p.m., nearly three days after he was first reported missing. Epps, who was nonverbal and autistic, had disappeared on Monday, prompting an urgent plea for public assistance.

Hundreds of volunteers, deputies, fire personnel, and trained search teams joined the massive effort, combing through dense woods and challenging terrain in hopes of bringing Jeffrey home safely. Many who participated said they were driven by the desire to help the teen’s family, especially with the holidays approaching.

In a statement posted to Facebook, the sheriff’s office expressed deep sorrow and asked the community to keep Jeffrey’s family in their thoughts.

“At this difficult time, we ask that the privacy of Jeffrey’s family be respected. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this challenging period,” officials said.

The discovery brings a tragic close to a search that united members of the community, all hoping for a different outcome. Authorities have not yet released additional details surrounding Jeffrey’s death, and the investigation remains ongoing.
