Seguin, TX — A Seguin Police Department officer struck and killed a woman Wednesday morning while driving into work, authorities confirmed.
The victim has been identified as 67-year-old Cindy Wiatrek of Seguin, according to Seguin Police Community Engagement Officer Stephanie Larrimore. Wiatrek was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash occurred around 5:55 a.m. in the 14000 block of State Highway 123 South, just south of the Seguin city limits. “Dispatch was alerted via radio by an officer who was en route to work and reported that he had been involved in the collision,” Larrimore said.
Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Seguin police officers, and Seguin Fire/EMS crews responded to the scene. Wiatrek was found deceased when first responders arrived.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is assisting with the investigation, and the Seguin Police Department is conducting a separate internal review. Larrimore said the officer has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with department policy. The officer, whose identity has not been released, was driving a department-issued vehicle at the time of the collision.
Officials have not released additional details as the investigation continues. Authorities are working to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic incident.
The Seguin community is mourning the loss of Cindy Wiatrek, a local resident whose life was cut short. Police and emergency responders continue to investigate and gather information while reminding drivers to exercise caution in the area.
