In Loving Memory of Lori Phillips, 54

Castlewood, Virginia is mourning the unexpected passing of Lori Phillips, 54, a deeply loved mother, sister, grandmother, wife, and lifelong member of the community. Lori’s sudden departure has left an unfillable void in the hearts of those who knew and cherished her.

Lori, who lived in Castlewood and was a proud graduate of Castlewood High School, was originally from Dante, Virginia. She dedicated nearly 40 years of service to the Dante Rescue Squad and worked many years as a registered nurse, touching countless lives with her compassion, skill, and unwavering dedication to helping others. Her commitment to her community was remarkable, and her kindness extended far beyond her work.

Her daughter, Jack Tara Ward, shared a heartbreaking tribute, remembering the love, joy, and warmth Lori brought into their lives:

“Heaven gained another angel. Mommy, we lost you tonight and it doesn’t feel real. Our hearts are shattered. I’m so thankful for how much you loved us and how much you did for us. You never stopped giving, never stopped caring, never stopped being there. You loved Christmas so very much and always filled the whole room with presents. Mommy, I didn’t know last Christmas was our last one with you. It was the best Christmas we’ve ever had—so fun, all of us packed into your she-shed in our pajamas, laughing until we cried. I’ll hold onto our memories until I see you in heaven.”

Lori’s sister also shared a powerful message of grief and love:

“My heart is absolutely shattered. My sweet sister Lori took her heavenly flight suddenly this evening. To know her was to love her. She was one of the smartest people I know, the best mommy to her children, she adored her grandchildren, and she loved her husband so very much. She touched so many lives through her work and service. She taught me so much—how to read, gave me a love for music, showed me what hard work looks like. She was the best prankster and truly one of a kind. Sis, 54 years was not enough. I love you always and will miss you so.”

Lori’s love for her family was at the center of everything she did. She was a devoted mother, a cherished sister, a proud grandmother, and a beloved wife. Her bright spirit, generosity, and sense of humor will be forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.

Castlewood has lost a pillar of its community, but Lori’s legacy of service, love, and kindness will live on in the lives she touched and the memories she leaves behind.

May her family, friends, and the community find comfort and strength in the days ahead as they honor and remember the beautiful life of Lori Phillips.
