Tragic Highway 83 Crash in Douglas County Claims Five Lives, Leaves Two Seriously Injured

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — Five people were killed and two others were seriously injured Monday afternoon in a devastating crash on Highway 83, just south of Franktown. The roadway was shut down in both directions for several hours between Lake Gulch Road and South Russellville Road as emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened just before 4:40 p.m. Colorado State Patrol (CSP) reported that a black Toyota hatchback was traveling southbound when the driver lost control, went off the right shoulder, then came back onto the roadway. The vehicle rolled into the northbound lanes, and the driver was ejected. A tan Ford sedan traveling northbound then struck the Toyota head-on.

The driver of the Toyota, a 31-year-old man from Denver, was pronounced dead at the scene. CSP later confirmed that the Toyota had been reported stolen out of Aurora just over an hour before the crash.

Inside the Ford sedan, four people were also pronounced dead on scene: the driver, 35-year-old Alvin Corado, and three children. The young victims were identified as 8-year-old Toretto Corado, 12-year-old Makenlee Corado, and 12-year-old Jase Green, all from Colorado Springs. Two additional juvenile passengers—a 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy—were airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

CSP’s Vehicular Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Witnesses who have not yet spoken with investigators are encouraged to contact Colorado State Patrol Dispatch and reference Case Number VC250439.

Family members have created GoFundMe pages to assist with funeral expenses and ongoing medical needs for the surviving children. The tragedy has deeply shaken the Colorado Springs community, leaving loved ones grieving an unimaginable loss.
