According to the Winston-Salem Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m. near south of Clemmonsville Road. Preliminary reports indicate that Lawrence darted into the southbound lanes from the median, and because it was dark and he was wearing dark clothing, the driver was unable to avoid colliding with him. Lawrence was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, was uninjured, and cooperated fully with officers. Authorities have notified Lawrence’s next of kin.
