KANKAKEE, Ill. — The community is grieving the loss of 20-year-old Donnie E. Smith of Chicago, who was fatally shot Sunday night in the parking lot of 952 E. Court Street.
According to the Kankakee Police Department, officers responded to reports of multiple gunshots at approximately 10:26 p.m. Upon arrival, Smith was found lying in the parking lot with gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to Riverside Medical Center, where, despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced deceased.
