Couple Found Shot to Death After Thanksgiving Morning House Fire in Indianapolis; Investigation Expands Following Related Police Pursuit

INDIANAPOLIS — A Thanksgiving morning tragedy has left a family devastated after a man and woman were found shot inside a burning home on the city’s east side.

First responders were called to the 3700 block of Audubon Road around 10:30 a.m. on November 27, 2025. When firefighters arrived, they extinguished a small fire inside the residence before discovering two adults suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man, 36-year-old Corkney “CJ” Morgan Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman, 36-year-old Meghan Wiekerson, was transported to a hospital in critical condition but later died from her injuries.

According to an Indianapolis Fire Department spokesperson, two young children—ages 1 and 3—were found inside the home but were unharmed. They have since been placed in safe care.

“This happening on Thanksgiving makes it even more heartbreaking,” said IMPD’s Public Information Officer William Thompson. “No family should be standing outside on a holiday grieving the loss of two loved ones. It is devastating.”

Authorities say the homicide investigation is still in its early stages. In addition, arson investigators with the Indianapolis Fire Department are working to determine how the fire started.

IMPD confirmed it is coordinating with the Whitestown Police Department following a police chase later Thursday afternoon that may be connected to the case. The pursuit began after officers responded to reports of a white Dodge Charger driving recklessly on Interstate 65.

Lebanon Police attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled, prompting a multi-agency pursuit involving Whitestown Police, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, and Indiana State Police. Tire deflation devices were deployed near the 168-mile marker in Tippecanoe County, causing the Charger to crash. The driver initially refused to exit the vehicle and was removed after officers took tactical measures. He was transported to a hospital with injuries. His condition has not yet been released.

IMPD noted that any potential link between the chase and the double homicide “remains part of the dynamic and ongoing investigation.”
