In Loving Memory of Shaquille Guerin

WAGGAMAN, La. — The St. John the Baptist Parish community is mourning the tragic loss of 35-year-old Deputy Shaquille Guerin, who was fatally shot Thursday evening in Waggaman. Officials confirmed that the incident occurred just after 5:30 p.m. in the 30 block of Marigold Lane.

According to authorities, Shaquille was shot by his brother, 32-year-old Darius Guerin of Marrero. Deputies arriving at the scene found Shaquille lying in the street outside a home with at least one gunshot wound. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by emergency medical crews and deputies, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the shooting, law enforcement located the vehicle used by Darius Guerin. After a brief pursuit in Lafitte, Darius was apprehended, and a firearm was recovered along the path where he fled. He faces charges of second-degree murder.

Shaquille had served with the St. John Sheriff’s Office for eight years, working in both the uniform patrol division and the detective bureau. Sheriff Mike Tregre remembered him as a dedicated public servant, saying, “Shaquille did his job well! He had the heart of a public servant. He carried and showed positivity as an employee for the St. John Sheriff’s Office and teammate to his coworkers.”

He is survived by his loving wife, Roxanne, and their three children. Shaquille’s passing leaves a profound void in the community, the sheriff’s office, and the hearts of all who knew him.

Shaquille Guerin — a devoted officer, loving husband and father, gone too soon, forever remembered, and deeply missed.
