PHILADELPHIA — The University City community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of 48-year-old Meaza Brown, who was fatally struck by a vehicle while walking to work early Thursday morning. The tragic incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on the 3300 block of Market Street, near Drexel University, when Brown was crossing the street alongside coworkers.
Philadelphia police report that a Chrysler 300 ran a red light at a high rate of speed, striking Brown in the crosswalk. The impact sent her several hundred feet down the street before the driver fled. The vehicle was later recovered at 34th and Race Street and towed to an impound lot, but the driver remains at large. Brown was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
