Fayetteville, N.C. — The Fayetteville community is mourning the loss of Perry Lamont Sykes, 47, who was fatally shot on the evening of November 26, 2025. The incident occurred around 6:10 p.m. at the Motel 6 on the 3700 block of Bragg Boulevard. Emergency responders transported Sykes to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, but despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. His next of kin have been notified.
Authorities report that Sykes was involved in an altercation with 24-year-old Chandon Cornelius Taylor, also of Fayetteville. During the confrontation, Taylor discharged a firearm, resulting in Sykes’ death. Taylor was taken into custody near the scene without incident and has been charged with First Degree Murder. He is currently being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond.
Police confirmed this was an isolated event and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
