RALEIGH, N.C — A tragic shooting at a Raleigh business Tuesday afternoon has left one man dead and another in custody. The incident happened at Onward Safety Solutions, a company specializing in traffic control for construction zones, located at 6521 Mount Herman Road in the Brier Creek area.
Raleigh police were dispatched just after 5 p.m. following reports of a shooting inside the building. When officers arrived, they found 26-year-old Darieen Marquise Hewett suffering from a gunshot wound. Hewett was transported to a nearby hospital, but despite emergency treatment, he later died from his injuries.
An eyewitness told ABC11 that someone walked into one of the office areas and shot a coworker, sending employees into shock and confusion. Workers were still waiting to leave late into the night as their cars remained blocked off while authorities secured the parking lot and continued processing the scene.
Forensic investigators spent hours examining both the interior and exterior of the building, documenting evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine what led to the deadly confrontation. Several employees who knew both the victim and the suspect expressed disbelief that workplace tensions could escalate to such extreme violence.
Police confirmed that 26-year-old Damouri Jontae Woods was arrested in connection with the shooting. He has been charged with murder and is expected to make his first court appearance on Wednesday.
The investigation remains active, and detectives are working to gather more information from witnesses and anyone who may have insight into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Raleigh Police Department at (919) 996-3335 or submit an anonymous tip through Crimestoppers by selecting the “Leave a Tip” option on their website.
As the investigation continues, coworkers and loved ones are left mourning the loss of Hewett and grappling with the shock of violence that unfolded in their workplace.
