The Amarillo community is grieving the tragic loss of 65-year-old Craig Steven Long, who died Tuesday evening in a devastating crash near I-27 and Moss Lane in the Wolflin area. The accident occurred around 5:39 p.m., when officers were called to a major collision involving Craig’s Chevrolet Tahoe and a parked semi-trailer.
According to Amarillo Police, Craig had been driving southbound on Canyon Drive when his Tahoe unexpectedly left the highway, traveled down a grassy embankment, and struck a semi-trailer stored inside a fenced lot at 3852 Canyon Drive. Despite the swift arrival of emergency responders, Craig tragically passed away at the scene from the impact. Officials confirmed there were no additional injuries.
Judge Crump with the Randall County Justice of the Peace responded to the site and ordered an autopsy as the investigation continues under the Amarillo Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Squad. Craig’s next of kin has been notified, and his loved ones are now navigating the heartbreaking reality of his sudden loss.
