KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Police are continuing to investigate the city’s 22nd homicide of 2025 as they search for a person of interest connected to a deadly shooting that occurred on November 20.

The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department responded just before 8:30 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the 400 block of Greeley Avenue, near 4th and Greeley. When officers arrived, they found a man lying outside a residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers immediately rendered aid while calling for emergency medical services.

The victim was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of first responders and medical staff, he did not survive. On Tuesday, police identified the victim as 20-year-old Makih Franklin of Overland Park, Kansas, a young man whose life was cut tragically short.

According to investigators, the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear. Detectives have been canvassing the neighborhood, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing any available surveillance footage in hopes of piecing together what transpired in the moments before and after the gunfire. Police say they are now looking for a person of interest who may have information crucial to the case.

The Major Case Unit is leading the investigation and continues to urge the public to come forward with any details that could assist in identifying the individual responsible. Authorities emphasize that even the smallest bit of information—something heard, seen, or captured on nearby cameras—could play an important role in moving the case forward.

As the community processes yet another act of violence, officials stress the importance of cooperation and awareness. They hope that by bringing those responsible to justice, they can continue working toward reducing gun violence in the area.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department or call the TIPS Hotline. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
