Lanett Man Fatally Shot During Officer-Involved Incident

LANETT, Ala. — The Lanett community is mourning the loss of 27-year-old Jaja Davis Jr., who was fatally shot during an officer-involved incident on Sunday. Authorities say the event unfolded after Davis, who was wanted in connection with a prior shooting that struck a Lanett Police patrol car, was located in the 1000 block of Magnolia Drive.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), officers from Lanett and an Auburn Police officer assigned to the U.S. Marshals Task Force attempted to take Davis into custody. During the encounter, Davis reportedly exchanged gunfire with law enforcement. He was shot, transported to a local hospital, and later pronounced deceased. No officers were injured during the incident.

The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) was called in to handle the case. Once the investigation concludes, the findings will be submitted to the Chambers County District Attorney’s Office for review.

Davis’s passing leaves a community grappling with sorrow and a heightened awareness of the risks law enforcement faces daily. Officials continue to urge calm while emphasizing that thorough investigative procedures are underway to ensure accountability and clarity. Families and neighbors remember Davis in the wake of the tragedy, and the city mourns the loss of a life ended too soon.
