According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Katlan was walking northbound across the eastbound lanes when she unexpectedly stepped into the path of an oncoming pickup truck. The vehicle, driven by a 22-year-old Crestview man, struck her with the left front of the truck. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but tragically, Katlan was pronounced dead at the scene.
