In Loving Memory of Jaida Gooden

The community of Orangeburg County is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 17-year-old Jaida Gooden, who tragically lost her life in a devastating crash on Wednesday morning, November 19, 2025.

The crash occurred around 8:40 a.m. at the intersection of Riley Road and Mixon Mill Road, just south of Cordova. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a 2019 Chevrolet Impala traveling north on Riley Road attempted to make a left turn onto Mixon Mill Road when it was struck by a 2010 Honda Accord, also traveling north.

The impact caused the Chevrolet to veer off the right side of the road, strike a ditch, and overturn. Inside the Honda were two individuals—Jaida being one of them. Despite efforts to save her, Jaida tragically passed away from her injuries. The second occupant of the Honda was transported to a nearby hospital, while the driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured.

Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle later confirmed Jaida’s identity, describing the deep sorrow felt throughout the area. Jaida was a bright and promising young woman and a student at Edisto High School, where she was known for her kindness, her warm spirit, and the light she brought to those around her.

Jaida’s sudden passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of her family, friends, classmates, and the entire community who loved her. She is remembered not only for her vibrant personality but also for the hope and potential her future held.

As loved ones gather in grief, they hold tightly to memories of Jaida’s laughter, her passion, and the joy she brought into their lives. Her legacy will live on through the many people she touched in her 19 beautiful years.

No further details about the crash have been released.

May Jaida rest in eternal peace, and may her family and community find comfort during this unimaginable time.
