The Bessemer community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of 36-year-old Christopher Darnell Jenkins, who tragically lost his life on the evening of November 19 after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle. The collision occurred just after 6 p.m. in the 200 block of Fairfax Avenue, a familiar stretch of road in the city he called home.
According to Bessemer Police, Christopher had been riding his bike when a vehicle approached from behind and hit him. The driver remained at the scene and immediately contacted authorities. Despite emergency efforts, Christopher’s injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced deceased shortly afterward. His sudden passing has left loved ones in shock, struggling to understand how an ordinary moment could end in such unimaginable loss.
Christopher will be remembered for his gentle spirit and the quiet kindness he carried with him wherever he went. Family and friends describe him as someone with a good heart—steady, humble, and compassionate. He had a way of making others feel seen and valued, whether through a simple smile, a brief conversation, or the warmth he naturally shared with the people around him.
His absence leaves a painful void, one felt not only by those who knew him best but by an entire community that recognized him as a friendly, familiar presence.
As his family navigates this heartbreaking time, may they be wrapped in love, comfort, and the strength of cherished memories. And may Christopher’s light continue to live on through the lives he touched during his time here.
Rest in peace, Christopher Darnell Jenkins.
Forever loved, forever remembered. 🕊️
