AMERICUS, Ga. — A violent shooting early Sunday morning has left the Americus community shaken after officers responded to a call of shots fired and discovered two people wounded, including a 17-year-old who later died.
At approximately 1:13 a.m. on Sunday, November 16, officers with the Americus Police Department were dispatched to the 300 block of Pine Street following reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found 17-year-old Brandon Brown and 27-year-old Kaley Mercedes Arizmendi, both of Americus, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. A third individual, 20-year-old Royce Miguel Arizmendi, was at the scene but was not injured, authorities said.
Both victims were transported to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center (PSMC) for emergency treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, Brandon Brown was later transferred to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, where he tragically succumbed to his wounds.
Kaley Arizmendi’s condition has not been publicly released, but she remains under medical care as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The case is currently under active investigation by the Americus Police Department in partnership with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). Detectives are working to determine a motive and identify all individuals involved.
