COLUMBUS, Ohio — A deep sense of grief has settled over a Columbus neighborhood after 26-year-old Isaiah Hairston was tragically killed in a Sunday afternoon shooting. What began as a normal day ended in heartbreak for his family, friends, and the entire community.

Columbus police responded to the 2900 block of East Moreland Drive around 4:33 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found Isaiah suffering from critical injuries. Emergency medical personnel immediately transported him to Grant Medical Center in hopes of saving his life. Despite their urgent efforts, Isaiah was pronounced dead at 5 p.m., leaving those who loved him devastated and searching for answers.

Detectives have since charged 21-year-old Shelton E. Sutton with murder in connection to the shooting. In a media release, investigators confirmed that the incident had a “domestic violence component,” adding another painful layer to an already tragic situation. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation as authorities work to piece together exactly what led to the fatal encounter.

For Isaiah’s family and friends, the loss is immeasurable. He was a young man with a full life ahead of him, and the suddenness of his passing has left a void filled with grief, disbelief, and unanswered questions. Loved ones remember him for his presence, his spirit, and the impact he had on those around him. Now, they mourn a life taken far too soon—a life that should have continued for many more years.
