The Henderson community is grieving an unimaginable loss after 11-year-old Brandon Dominguez-Chavarria was tragically killed during a road-rage shooting on the 215 Beltway Friday morning. What should have been a simple drive to school became a heartbreaking moment that forever changed a family and shook the city to its core.

Brandon was riding in the back seat of his stepfather’s vehicle when, according to police, an encounter between two drivers escalated into violence. Investigators say both vehicles were attempting to merge onto the 215 from U.S. 95/I-11 when the drivers exchanged heated words. In the midst of that confrontation, the suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired a single shot into Brandon’s vehicle, striking the young boy who was simply sitting behind his stepfather—on his way to start a new school day.

Despite desperate efforts to stop the incident by ramming the suspect’s car and the arrival of first responders, Brandon’s injuries were too severe. He passed away shortly after, leaving behind a family shattered by grief and a community heartbroken by the senselessness of the act.
His loved ones describe Brandon as “the light of our family,” a child with an infectious smile, a playful personality, and a loving heart big enough to brighten every room he entered. He was known for his joyful spirit, his silliness, and the kindness that came naturally to him. Those who knew him say he brought laughter, warmth, and love into their lives—gifts they will forever cherish.
The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Tyler Matthew Johns, has been arrested and faces charges including open murder with a deadly weapon.
As the investigation continues, the community has rallied around Brandon’s family, offering prayers, support, and compassion as they navigate a loss no family should ever endure.
Brandon Dominguez-Chavarria will be remembered not for the tragedy that took his life, but for the beautiful, joyful child he was—forever loved, forever missed, and forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
