GRAYSON COUNTY, Va. — The Virginia Department of Corrections and the community are mourning the tragic loss of Corrections Officer Jeremy Lewis Hall, 40, who was fatally attacked by an inmate at River North Correctional Center early Monday morning. Hall, a dedicated officer, had served with the department since April 2024 and devoted his life to public safety and the protection of others.

The incident occurred around 7:53 a.m., when Hall was reportedly assaulted while performing his duties. Emergency responders quickly transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Two other officers were also injured during the attack but have since been treated and released.
